King Faisal II - 5 fils
This stamp highlights a poignant period of transition and dynastic continuity within the Kingdom of Iraq following the tragic death of King Ghazi in 1939. The central portrait features the child monarch, King Faisal II, carrying a symbolic message of national hope, resilience, and the endurance of the Hashemite monarchy under a royal regency. In the Iraqi context of the early 1940s, this 1-fils definitive program was vital for anchoring public allegiance and maintaining institutional stability across the state's provinces during a turbulent global era. By framing the young king's likeness within a classic oval vignette flanked by formal bilingual inscriptions, the postal administration projected an image of administrative order, solidifying the sovereign identity of the maturing nation on everyday correspondence.
