Issued in 1967 as part of the International Tourist Year 1967 series, this stamp commemorates the famous Minaret of the Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul, commonly known as Al-Hadba ("The Hunchback") because of its distinctive leaning shape. Constructed during the twelfth century under the rule of Nur al-Din Zangi, the minaret became one of Iraq's most recognizable architectural landmarks and a symbol of the city of Mosul. Its elegant brickwork and historic significance made it an important monument of Islamic architecture. By issuing this commemorative stamp, the Republic of Iraq highlighted the richness of its Islamic and architectural heritage while promoting cultural tourism during International Tourist Year. The issue celebrated one of Iraq's most renowned historical monuments and emphasized the importance of preserving cultural landmarks as part of the nation's historical identity.
