Issued in 1967 as part of the International Tourist Year 1967 series, this stamp commemorates the famous Minaret of the Great Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul, commonly known as Al-Hadba ("The Hunchback") because of its distinctive leaning shape. Constructed during the twelfth century under the rule of Nur al-Din Zangi, the minaret became one of Iraq's most recognizable architectural landmarks and a symbol of the city of Mosul. Its elegant brickwork and historic significance made it an important monument of Islamic architecture.
