Coat of arms of the Republic - 10 fils

The Coat of Arms of the Republic represented the new political order established after the Iraqi monarchy was overthrown in the revolution of 14 July 1958. The emblem presented the republic as an independent state and gave the new government a distinct national symbol for official use. Its central agricultural and industrial references linked national identity with wheat production, labour and economic development. The surrounding solar form drew on ancient Mesopotamian symbolism, connecting the modern republic with the long history of civilisation in Iraq.
