3rd Congress of the Arab Postal Union - 3 fils

The 3rd Congress of the Arab Postal Union (APU), convened in Baghdad in March 1956, marked a crucial milestone in the unification and modernization of postal systems across the Middle East. Gathering top postal administrators and logistics experts from across the region, this high-level summit sought to standardize postal tariffs, simplify international transit protocols, and accelerate the exchange of mail between member states. Held during a period of intense pride and regional integration, the congress positioned the humble postage stamp and logistics network as vital tools for fostering pan-Arab solidarity, ensuring that communication barriers were dismantled to better connect families, businesses, and governments across borders. To commemorate this prestigious diplomatic and logistical event, the Iraqi postal authority issued a highly distinct set of commemorative postage stamps. Printed by the renowned British security printing firm Bradbury Wilkinson & Company, the beautifully engraved series features the iconic globe-and-envelope emblem of the Arab Postal Union, flanked by classical geometric borders and bilingual typography. These stamps stand as a classic and deeply nostalgic example of mid-twentieth-century Middle Eastern philately, capturing a historic moment when the nations of the Arab world aligned their infrastructures to build a highly synchronized, independent communication network.
